Resident artist season 25-26
Winner of the 15th International Tchaikovsky Competition and an exclusive SONY Classical artist, Pablo Ferrández is regarded as the “new cello genius” (Le Figaro).
His debut album, Reflections, released in 2021 on SONY Classical, was highly praised by critics and awarded the Opus Klassik prize. In autumn 2022, Pablo released a second album featuring Brahms’ Double Concerto, performed with Anne-Sophie Mutter and the Czech Philharmonic under the baton of Manfred Honeck.
In recent seasons, Pablo has appeared with renowned orchestras such as the Boston Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony, Filarmonica della Scala, Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Tonhalle Orchestra, Bayerischer Rundfunk Symphony Orchestra, Munich Philharmonic, HR-Sinfonieorchester, Konzerthaus Berlin Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic, Orchestre National de France, and many others.
He performs on the 1689 “Archinto” Stradivarius, generously loaned for life by a member of the Stretton Society.
Pablo Ferrández has performed with the OPMC in 2018, 2024, and in June 2025 with Anne-Sophie Mutter under the direction of Kazuki Yamada.
COULD YOU INTRODUCE YOURSELF BRIEFLY?
My name is Pablo Ferrández. I was born in Madrid in 1991, and I am a cellist.
WHAT ARE THE MOST SIGNIFICANT MOMENTS OF YOUR CAREER?
I have experienced many highlights in my career, but one of them is undoubtedly the recording of Brahms’ Double Concerto with Anne-Sophie Mutter. I performed this piece with her in Monaco in June 2025, and it was a great pleasure to play this masterpiece live in front of a packed audience in the Auditorium Rainier III.
WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FROM THIS RESIDENCY WITH THE MONTE-CARLO PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA?
I am especially excited about this residency because it is a wonderful opportunity to build deeper connections with the orchestra’s musicians and the Monaco audience, where I have very fond memories of my concerts. The orchestra is marvellous, and their approach to music is very close to mine, so it is going to be perfect partnership.
