In 2009 Constantin Trinks was appointed Musical Director of the Darmstadt Opera where he conducted the first production of The Master-Singers of Nuremberg and a new production of Wagner’s The Ring of the Nibelung, acclaimed by the international press. He is the youngest conductor having conducted the entire operatic work of Richard Wagner.
Constantin Trinks established himself internationally conducting a series of Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier for the centenary celebrations of that opera at Semperoper and Bayerische Staatsoper in 2011, featuring respectively Anja Harteros and Renée Fleming.
Works by Wagner and R. Strauss are the preferred repertoire of Constantin Trinks who conducted The Ring of the Nibelung in Darmstadt from 2009 to 2011 and in 2016 in Vienna; The Ban On Love in Bayreuth and Strasburg, Lohengrin and Parsifal in Munich and Sofia, Tannhauser in Strasburg, The Flying Dutchman in Dresden and Zurich, Salome in Strasburg, Arabella and Der Rosenkavalierfor his debut at the Bayrische Staatsoper in Munich.
He also conducted Aida, De temporum fine comoedia, Fidelio, The Turn of Screw, The Magic Flute, The Marriage of Figaro, Così fan tutte, Hans Heiling, Don Giovanni, Gisela, La Bohème, The Bartered Bride, Gisei in Hamburg, Dresden, Vienna, Tokyo, Paris, Zurich …
Constantin Trinks is a regular guest at many of the major opera houses, such as Semperoper Dresden, Bavarian State Opera in Munich, Theater an der Wien, Vienna State Opera, Staatsoper Hamburg, Opéra National de Paris, New National Theatre Tokyo, Frankfurt Opera and Opernhaus Zurich.
But Constantin Trinks is as well a refined symphonist. He conducted Tokyo, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Munich, Stuttgart Philharmonic orchestras; Languedoc Montpellier and Bordeaux National orchestras; SWR Saarebruck Orchestra, HR Sinfonieorchester Frankfurt, Bayerischen Rundfunks; Barcelona, Bretagne and Vancouver Symphony orchestras, Salzburg Mozarteum.
Constantin Trinks recorded works by Mozart at ARS, works by Hans Rott with the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra (BBC CD of the month), opera arias (Madness) with the Dresden Staatskapelle, Švanda dudák by Jaromir Weinberger at Hänssler Classics and Gisei by Carl Orff on DVD at Wergo. He has received numerous prizes for his recordings.
Constantin Trinks was often compared, by the German press, to Carlos Kleiber for his performances of R. Strauss works.
Born in 1975 in Karlsruhe, Constantin Trinks studied horn and piano, then became Choirmaster, assistant to Kazushi Ono and Kappellmeister at the Badisches Staatstheater in Karlsruhe. In 2002 he became first Kappellmeister at the Saarbrücken Theater of and then from 2004 to 2009 Musical Director. In 2004 he conducted the spectacular Luigi Nono Intolleranza 1960 production and the European premiere of Tan Dun’s First Emperor. As a tenor he often sang with the Stuttgart Chamber Choir.
Constantin Trinks was the assistant of Christian Thielemann for Tannhauser in Bayreuth in 2004, of Thomas Hengelbrock at the Schwetzingen Festival and of Andreas Spering at the Haendel- Festspiele in Karlsruhe, which allowed him to understand Baroque technique.
Highlights of the 2017/2018 season include a new production of The Ring of the Nibelung at the Theater an der Wien, Rott’ Symphony No. 1 with the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra and his debut with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.
